An eSIM only installs if your phone supports it. It takes about a minute to check here, before you pay.

- iPhone SE (2nd / 3rd gen)Supported
The 3rd gen supports eSIM. For the 2nd gen, Apple's own documents disagree — check whether Settings › Cellular shows 'Add eSIM'.
- iPhone X and earlier (X, 8, 7, etc.)Likely no
These models do not support eSIM.
- iPhones sold in mainland China, Hong Kong or MacauLikely no
Most mainland-China models are dual nano-SIM with no eSIM (including the 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and 16e); the 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, 17e and Air do have eSIM. Most Hong Kong / Macau 11–16 models are also dual nano-SIM (except the mini and 16e).
More reliable than the list
- Look in your phone's settings. On iPhone: Settings → Cellular (Mobile Service in some regions) → Add eSIM. On Galaxy: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM. If that menu is there, you're set.
- The same model can differ by the country it was sold in and the carrier. "Supported" in the list means the usual case.
- A device with a country lock or carrier lock may install the eSIM and still be limited on the network. Worth checking if you bought it used.
